10 Classic Angostura Cocktails.

Aromatic bitters are a classic ingredient in many cocktails, adding depth, complexity, and a unique flavour profile. Angostura is a brand recognized by most and trusted by the pros. Here are 10 of the most popular recipes  that feature Angostura Aromatic bitters:

 

1. Old Fashioned:

2 oz Bourbon
1/4 oz Demerara Syrup
3 dashes Angostura bitters
Orange twist, for garnish

Directions:

In a mixing glass add ingredients and ice. Stir for 20-25 seconds. Strain into an Old fashioned glass. Express an orange peal over the glass and add.

 


2. Manhattan:

2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Amarena cherry, for garnish

Directions:

In a mixing glass add ingredients and ice. Stir for 20-25 seconds. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Add Maraschino cherry.

 


3. Champagne Cocktail:

1 Sugar cube
Angostura Bitter
Champagne or Sparkling wine

Directions:

Soak the sugar cube in Angostura bitters and drop into a Champagne flute. Top with Champagne or a sparkling wine. Garnish with a lemon or orange twist.



4. Trinidad Sour:

1 1/2 oz Angostura bitters
1/2 oz Rye whiskey
1 oz Orgeat
3/4 oz Fresh lemon juice

Directions:

In a mixing glass add ingredients and ice. Stir for 20-25 seconds. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

 


5. Pink Gin:
- 2 oz gin
- 3-4 dashes Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist, for garnish

Directions:

Add ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake. Strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

 


6. Rum Swizzle:

2 oz Dark rum
1 oz Falernum
3/4 oz Fresh lime juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish with an orange slice, and cherry, for garnish

Directions:

Fill a double Old Fashioned glass halfway with crushed ice. Add ingredients. Use a swizzle stick or bar spoon between your palms, spin the swizzle or spoon to mix vigorously until glass is frosty. Add more ice and a few dashes of bitters. Add Garnish

 

7. Pisco Sour:

2 oz pisco
1 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz simple syrup
1 egg white
2 dashes Angostura bitters, for garnish

Directions:

Add ingredients into a shaker and dry-shake (without ice) vigorously. Add ice and shake again until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with 3 to 5 drops of Angostura bitters. Using a toothpick swirl the bitters into a simple design, if desired.

 

8. Sazerac:

2 oz Rye whiskey
1 Sugar cube
2 dash Angostura bitters
Absinthe
Lemon twist, for garnish

Directions:

Using an atomizer, spray Absinthe into a chilled rocks glass. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube, water and Angostura bitters. Add the rye whiskey, fill the mixing glass with ice and stir 20-25 seconds, until well-chilled. Strain into glass. Express a lemon peal over the drink. Add lemon peal.

 

9. Horses Neck:

2 oz bourbon or brandy
Ginger ale
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Lemon twist, for garnish

Directions:

Drape the spiral of a lemon peel over the rim of a collins glass so it twists around inside. Secure one end of the peel over the lip of the glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour in the bourbon and top with ginger ale. Add a few dashes of bitters. Stir.

 

10. Vieux Carré:

3/4 oz rye whiskey
3/4 oz cognac
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
1/4 oz Bénédictine
4 dashes Angostura bitters
Amarena cherry, for garnish

Directions:

In a mixing glass add ingredients and ice. Stir for 20-25 seconds. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with a cherry.
